Mine opens with "I'm scared of love" — few love songs admit being a coward so plainly. Taylor kneads wanting and fear of getting hurt together, like someone who wants to get close but whose hand keeps pulling back.

I'm a sucker for that contradiction. It doesn't fake cool; it just says straight: I've blown this before, so this time I both want it and tremble. That line "you made a captive of my heart" is someone finally cracking the door open.
