The original Back to December is already honest; the acoustic strips the arrangement to just her and that apology. The re-recorded acoustic is barer, like saying something true to the ceiling alone at night.

I actually love this version more — no instrument to cushion you, every word has to stand alone. An apology lands heavier the simpler it is. It reminds you: some lines with piano are one thing; sung bare, they're another.
