Our Song's cleverness flips a lack — "we don't have a song" — into "then we'll write one." The chorus ticks off private codes only the two of them get, turning the most ordinary romance into something proprietary.

It nails the most addictive illusion of teenage love: our thing, which no one else understands, and that's exactly the point. With one made-up melody, Taylor got a whole generation hooked on the idea of a secret that belongs to two people.
